West District Junior Age Group Championships – 26/27 Oct

The final West District junior swimming championships of 2019 was held at Tollcross pool in Glasgow on Saturday and Sunday 26th, 27th October. The West District encompasses an area spanning from Gretna in the south to Oban in the north, stretching east to west between Falkirk and Islay.
350 of the best swimmers aged 11-13 in the West District attended the competition. A team of 5 who more than punched above their weight represented Dumfries. The small but impressive team finished 3rd in the overall team standings with a total of 12 gold, 2 silvers and 7 bronzes and too many personal bests and final appearances to mention!
Notable individual performances included
Finlay Nelson winning 5 gold and 1 silver and 2 bronze.
Lexi Anderson winning 6 gold and 1 silver
Alex Scott winning 1 gold and 2 bronze
Luke Scott winning 3 bronze
Brooke Rogerson with big personal bests in 200 back and 200 breaststroke
Head coach Anthony Ryan commented ‘‘the application and behaviour the swimmers displayed is what coaches dream of!’

National County Team Championships – 6 Oct
Four swimmers from Dumfries ASC were selected to compete for the West of Scotland team in Division 1 of the National County team championships held at Sheffield Ponds Forge pool on Sunday 6th October.
The swimmers selected were Lexi Anderson, Cameron Gordon, Alex Scott and Ava Simpson.
The competition comprised the top 20 regional teams from across the whole of the United Kingdom. The West of Scotland finished an impressive 4th overall with each of the Dumfries swimmers performing well in the face of strong competition.
Coaches and team managers were impressed with the behaviour and attitude displayed by the swimmers, who enjoyed the experience of competing at a national level event.
