On the 22nd September, Dumfries amateur swimming club travelled as a team to Tollcross to take part in the team championships.
This was a one day event where the top 10 Scottish teams from the 2018 National Age Group Championships were invited to enter a junior team comprising of swimmers aged 16 years and under for the title of Scottish National Junior Team Champions.
Eighteen swimmers from Dumfries ASC were chosen to compete in this event. They were sitting in 10th place going into the event with stiff competition from some of the big city clubs.
They swam as a team, every position they came in collected points, not medals. There were 30 swims in total and 4 relay teams. It was a fantastic day, they all worked well as a team, supported each other and were in poolside cheering whoever was in the pool.
There were lots of personal best times and top 3 positions throughout the day from everyone. Head coach Anthony Ryan and Assistant regional coach Ross McCafferty praised the swimmers in all of their swimming and enthusiasm.
By the end of the day Dumfries has managed to move up a position and finished 9th place overall.
A great effort by all the young swimmers.
