7 swimmers from Dumfries Amateur Swimming Club qualified for swims at the British Summer Champions in Sheffield at Ponds forge international sports centre over 6 days from 24th - 29th July.
This forms part of a broader performance pathway strategy aimed at increasing and supporting junior talent on the journey towards senior medal winning performances, as well as offering more athletes across the home nations an opportunity to compete at one of the end if season events.
On day one Cameron Allison was swimming 100m breaststroke and improved on his entry time. Owen McBurnie swam 50m backstroke. He improved on his entry time finishing 8th securing him a place in the final. He improved his time further in the final finishing 9th overall.
Day two saw Cameron Allison swim again, this time 50m breaststroke, and Owen McBurnie in 100m backstroke. Owen improved again on his entry time. Ava Simpson swam 100m backstroke, finishing in 6th place goinginto the final. Her final saw Ava finishing 5th overall with a new personal best time. Niamh Green also swam 100m backstroke.
Day three was a rest day for the swimmers.
On day four Bryce Procter swam 100m butterfly achieving a personal best time, Cameron Gordon also swam 100m butterfly. Next up were the boys 14-16 years 800 x 4 relay team comprising of Bryce Procter, Liam Eccleston, Owen McBurnie and Cameron Allison. The boys set a new personal best time.
Day five saw Ava Simpson score a stunning result in the 50m backstroke coming home in the Bronze medal position. The boys 14-16yr relay team swam again, this time in the 400m freestyle x 4 and again achieved a new personal best time.
Day six saw Owen McBurnie swim into the final with his 200m backstroke finishing in 10th place. Cameron Allison also swam into the final with his 200m freestyle gaining 8th place overall. Cameron Gordon swam 50m butterfly narrowly missing out on a place in the final. The boys relay team made their final appearance this time in the 400m x 4 medley, they enjoyed their last race of the competition with yet another team personal best time.
