Sunderland New Year Meet 2018

On the 12th of January a team of 19 swimmers from Dumfries ASC travelled to Sunderland for the first Long Course competition of the season.

A team event is a great opportunity for swimmers to develop skills and resilience out with the water. Great fun and a boost for team morale!

Despite ongoing illness within the squad and the Christmas holidays the youngsters rose to the challenge.119 individual races ranging from 50-400metres covering all strokes culminated in 21 medals: 5 Gold ,8 Silver and 8 Bronze achieved by Cameron Allison, Elliot and Austin Sinclair, Alex Scott, Owen McBurnie, Lexi Anderson, Niamh Green, Cameron Gordon and Reuben Kelly.

Outstanding swims in particular from Lexi Anderson 200 free Rueben Kelly 100fly and Niamh Green 50 back.

Congratulations to all who attended as each swimmer took on board the coaches pre-race input, some with a main focus on technique and race strategy. It’s not always about a pb!

Assistant Head Coach Ross McCafferty said 'the swimming on a whole was positive all swimmers tried to execute their race plans and learn from feedback to try to improve future racing, The technical level of the strokes was also at a very high level and definitely showed amongst other clubs.'

Thanks goes to Coaches Anthony Ryan, Ross McCafferty and Team Managers Hazel Hastings and Tanya Harkness for supporting the team over the weekend. Thanks also goes to Ben Hastings for driving the bus.

Very much appreciated by all.
