Early this month a team from Dumfries Amateur Swim Club travelled to Prestonpans. 18 young swimmers drawn from Age Group, Junior Age Group & Age Group Development Squads attended the Hearts Premier Age Group Meet participating in approximately 138 events, ranging in distance from 50-200 metres across all 4 strokes & individual medleys.
The team were a credit to the club achieving 12 medals -3 Gold, 4 Silver and 5 Bronze. Medal winners were: Reuben Kelly, Austin Sinclair, Alex Scott, Daniel Wilson, Diarmuid Stevenson and Lexi Anderson .
Overall the youngsters were outstanding producing an incredible 118 personal best times between them with huge strides forward for a number of swimmers. Notably Sean McCallie taking off a whopping 48 seconds from his nemesis - 100 Breastroke! Austin Sinclair, 20 seconds off Backstroke and Breast and Diarmuid Stevenson a staggering 1 minute 39 seconds off 200 fly.
Phenomenal boys, well done.
Coach Phil Stewart said ‘This Meet is one that we target early in the season to give our young swimmers the opportunity to compete at a higher level. I am delighted that they rose to the challenge setting all of those PB’s, collecting 12 medals & improving substantially on their ranking. This was an outstanding achievement and proves that the hard work that they put in at training is paying off’.
The club would like to thank Team Managers Marc Scott and Tanya Harkness for giving up their weekend to support the swimmers. All of our volunteers are greatly appreciated as the meet could not go ahead without them.
