Earlier this month 6 swimmers form Dumfries Amateur Swim Club made the 100 mile journey to Sunderland to participate in the National Qualifier. This was a Long Course meet and thus gave the swimmers an opportunity to practice race strategies in a 50m pool.
Kara Myatt, Davie Houston ,Alex Scott And brothers Ben and Ryan Copeland were ably led by the boys club captain Finlay Hastings.
This small contingent competed in a total of 30 events gaining 25 personal best times with Davie Houston making it through to the 50 breast final.
The discipline and attitude of the swimmers was admirable. Coach Phil Stewart said ‘This was an incredible effort for the swimmers to achieve such a high number of pb’s and reflects on all the hard work that they put into perfecting their technique and improving their fitness. There are still a number of meets left before the summer break and these swimmers will have the confidence to push on from here and achieve even more outstanding results.’
Training continues for the upcoming Regional Championships held at Stranraer followed by the clubs home meet held at Bellshill at the end of the month.
Thanks goes to Coach Phil Stewart, Team Manager Marc Scott and his young assistant Luke Scott.
