17 young intermediate swimmers from Dumfries Amateur Swim Club travelled to The Peak to compete at Stirling’s Winter Graded Meet late last month and what a meet it was!
Swimmers had certainly blown off the Christmas cobwebs producing an impressive spreadsheet of results. The team amassed a whopping 10 Gold ,7 Silver and 4 Bronze medals along with 2 speeding tickets. Yes I said speeding tickets! Swimmers are given one of these when they have ‘swam too fast’ ,this award is deemed the ultimate achievement at a Graded meet as it surpasses a gold. Well done Jamie Quinn and Lexi Anderson.
Lexi also took Gold for 5 out of her 6 races and brothers Alex and Luke Scott took home 9 medals between them. Congratulations goes to Charlotte Conchie achieving Silver and Brooke Rogerson, a Gold.
However the most exciting mark of success is the number of pb’s recorded…a staggering 104 over the course of the weekend! A huge well done to all swimmers.
Coach Ailsa Nelson said ‘It was a great start to the New Year. This meet confirmed how well the swimmers dealt with competing at longer distances and proved their hard work and training is paying off!’
Perhaps the presence of an Olympian inspired our team and contributed to their success. Stirling’s Craig Benson took time out of his training schedule to present the medals during Saturday’s afternoon session. He also took time to sign numerous kickboards and pose for a multitude of selfies!
Thanks as always to coach Ailsa and to Marc Scott Team Manager for supporting the youngsters. Training continues as further Meets are marked in the Calendar.
