Scottish National Swimming Success for Dumfries ASC

Scottish Summer Meet 2018

 

As the swimming season draws to a close, 16 young swimmers from Dumfries ASC achieved outstanding success at the Scottish Summer Meet held in Aberdeen, 13th to 15th July.

 

This invitational meet brings together the top 20 swimmers from Scotland to compete in each event. All the team performed exceptionally well, with 5 local swimmers being crowned Scottish Summer Meet Champions.

 

  • Cameron Allison - Gold 400m Free, Gold 200IM

  • Lauren Anderson - Bronze 100m Back

  • Cameron Gordon - Silver 200m Fly

  • Owen McBurnie - Gold 50m Fly, Bronze 100m Fly

  • Gemma McLeod - Gold 100m Free, Silver 50m Free

  • Ava Simpson - Gold 200m Back, Bronze 50m Breast, Bronze 400IM

  • Austin Sinclair - Bronze 50m Breast

  • Elliot Sinclair  - Gold 200m Fly, Silver 100m Fly

 

Sophie Dodd, Niamh Green, Aimee Harkness, Reuben Kelly, Kara Myatt and Bryce Procter all qualified for multiple finals and finished in the top 10 for those events. There were also solid performances from Rachel Beswick  and Alex Scott, who achieved a personal best time.

 

Scottish Open Championships 2018

 

The meet followed on from the Scottish Open Championships 2018 which took place at Tollcross International Swimming Centre, Glasgow over 4 days at the end of June.

 

This high level national meet saw 14 members of the Dumfries ASC team compete against the best senior and junior swimmers from all over Scotland in individual events and relays. There were some great performances from the team, with many swimmers achieving personal best times against some tough competition. Ava Simpson won her first Scottish Junior Champion title in the 50m backstroke - achieving a personal best time and finishing second in the ‘B’ final.

 

Anthony Ryan, Head Coach said 'This has been a great end to the season - I am excited to see what this talented group of swimmers can achieve throughout the rest of the year and am looking forward to taking the 7 British Summer Meet qualifiers to compete in Sheffield at the end of the month'.
